Itinerary
Arrival in Jordan, where you will be met by English-speaking representative who will assist you with getting your visa, retrieving your bags and going through customs.
Your Jordan tour package begins with a city tour of Amman. Jordan’s capital is a safe, friendly, and modern city. The old city is dominated by the ancient Citadel with its Byzantine Church, The Temple of Hercules and The Umayyad Palace. Amman was known in the Old Testament as Rabbath Ammon and in Greco-Roman times as Philadelphia. You will visit the Amphitheater and the Archaeological & Jordan Folklore Museums and the Citadel (The Byzantine Church, The Temple of Hercules and The Umayyad Palace complex). Visit Amman's downtown market and city center, its traditional souks, coffee shops, restaurants selling local food and sweets, churches and mosques amongst other popular places. Then drive to the other side of the city where you can see the beautiful houses made of white stones of the higher class in Abdoun. We then visit “Rainbow Street”, a major attraction in old Amman. The capital’s greatest souks, fine museums, ancient constructions, monuments and cultural sites are found in Jabal Amman. Thereafter, Transfer to your hotel and assist with check-in- (Meals: Nil).
Today we leave Amman and begin the drive toward Petra. The first stop along the way is Madaba, where the St George's Greek Orthodox Church has a famous mosaic on the floor. Made during the 6th century AD, the mosaic shows the pilgrimage from the surrounding areas to the Holy Land. You can even find Egypt on this map!
Your next visit recalls the story of Moses and his journey to the Promised Land. At Mount Nebo there is a Memorial for Musa(Moses) and a 4th century church which Italian Franciscan priests excavated and restored in 1933. The panoramic view overlooks the Jordan River Valley, the Dead Sea, Jericho and Jerusalem. Transfer to Petra with time to settle into your hotel- (Breakfast included).
Tonight you will enjoy the magic of Petra by night. The program includes a candle lit visit to the Rose-Red City of Petra. The special aura of the ancient Nabataen trading empire comes to life as you enjoy a stroll through the mysterious Siq of Petra. At The Treasury, music and stories will help you experience Petra as the travel-weary traders of old must have known it. The excursion departs from Petra Visitors Center evening at 20:30, returning to the Visitors Center around 22:30.
After breakfast at the hotel, we will begin to explore the Red Rose City, Petra. First established sometime around the 6th century BC by Nabataean Arabs, a nomadic tribe who settled in the area and laid the foundations of a commercial empire that extended into Syria. Despite successive attempts by the Seleucid king Antigonus, the Roman emperor Pompey, and Herod the Great to bring Petra under the control of their respective empires, Petra remained largely in Nabataean hands until around 100 AD, when the Romans took over.
It was still inhabited during the Byzantine period, when the former Roman Empire moved its focus east to Constantinople, but declined in importance thereafter. The Crusaders constructed a fort there in the 12th century but soon withdrew, leaving Petra to the local people until the early 19th century, when it was visited by the Swiss explorer Johann Ludwig Burckhardt.
Upon arrival, you will begin an unforgettable trip on horseback to the Siq and then continue on foot until you reach the Treasury. Our guide will give a brief history of the city. You will also see Pharaoh's Castle, the Triumphal Arch, and the Amphitheater before returning to your hotel. (Breakfast & dinner included)
Tonight, you will have a true local experience by eating in Petra at a local home, sitting down and enjoying traditional Jordanian food with the family. Receiving guests brings great honor in Jordanian culture, and you will experience the genuine warmth and welcome that your host bestows on you.
In the morning we will set out for Little Petra, which was inhabited by the Nabataeans and has many tombs, water containers, and channels. The scale of this area and the fact that it is a continuation of Petra gave it the name Little Petra.
We then return to the asphalt and drive to the desert of Wadi Rum, the wild desert landscape that fascinated the British liaison officer Lawrence of Arabia. Describing Wadi Rum as "vast, echoing and god-like," we believe he could not have said it better. We will drive for three hours in a 4-wheel drive Jeep through the desert to see Lawrence's Spring. We will pass majestic mountains and explore a gorge with some ancient rock drawings. You will have free time to hike on your own, enjoying the silence of this awesome desert. Transfer to your camp, where you will spend an unforgettable night under a blanket of stars. A BBQ dinner will be served in a Bedouin tent. (Breakfast & dinner included)
This morning, drive for approximately four hours to your hotel overlooking the Dead Sea, the lowest point on Earth (1,373 ft. below sea level) and the world's largest natural spa. Enjoy the stunning views of the Dead Sea, float in its mineral-rich waters, experience a rejuvenating Dead Sea mud bath, or take advantage of the hotel's spa facilities. Spa treatments are available but are not included in your tour price. (Breakfast included)
Your 6-day private Jordan tour concludes with a transfer to Queen Alia International Airport for your departure. Our English-speaking representative will assist you at the airport to ensure a smooth departure. (Breakfast included)
